Arriving at Rundu and by-passing the Airforce Base. Having been through there a couple of times in my youth not much has changed, Rundu town is still a bit of a dump. Could be a small town anywhere in Africa although like most Namibian towns we’ve noticed there is no litter unlike SA.
We set up Jurgie right alongside the Kavango River at Hakusembe Resort which has 4 beautiful sites. Wonderful to be out of the sand and on grass with own ablutions and power. The staff and facilities here were friendly & excellent. We enjoyed delicious Springbok fillets which was a first for both of us.
We took three days off to do some tourist stuff and just chill at the river after all the driving we have done. The river is beautiful but having had a lot of rain the lack of bird life and wild life was a disappointment.
Popped into Rundu for supplies and to visit the local market. We managed to get some fresh bread rolls and some delicious chilli bites (not from the market!) which made our day!
The light pollution here is minimal and the stars at night are brilliant. Too many places don’t think about light pollution whilst you supposedly in the bush and ruin the night skies. Photos improving - still need to practise getting the stars focused but you get the idea....
This living museum, close to our camp, was well worth a visit. The funds they raise support this organisation or village of about 25 people. They bring awareness of their ancient traditions of the Mbunza people by explaining them in living form from basket & mat weaving, fishing, their old medical remedies from local plants and finally their traditional dancing
Some local road side art .....
Blessed once again with a beautiful rainbow.
Skies of changing colours.
Leaving for the Caprivi after three night stay and Divindu beckons.
