We left Luderitz at 7 AM so that we could get a coffee at the Local Deli on our way. We took the tar road back to AUS this time climbing from the coast back inland. We took the M35(C13) through Neisipvlakte Plains and the road as well as the scenery was great. We had decided to take the D707 to drive through the Namib-Naukluft Park. A bit of off roading but not too bad. Lots of washaways but nothing too serious. Views were fantastic and we drove through a green desert as they have had plenty of rain. We then re-joined the C27 and wow he hit the dreaded rutted Namib roads. Looks like SANRAL was looking after this section of “Road”. We bounced along going 40 to 60 kms per hour as every time we sped up, we hit a washaway or a huge rut. We eventually got to Sesriem and a well-deserved Alcoholic Beverage.

This windmill was designed and built by Siegfried Schnebel - he built it to tap into the  water source 30m below the surface for his orchards & fodder plants. The largest commercial windmills available to him could not withstand the high winds in the area so he built his own. It's known in the area as The Peculiar Town of Tiras.

Quick stop for a pee and pie @ a little place called Betta in the middle of fok all nowhere.  Wouldn't be a quaint stop without at least 3 or 4 rusted cars or some form of recycled seating.  Homemade Pies were delicious and then back on the road...

After our incredibly hectic drive we arrived at Sesreim Campsite and managed to reattached Jurgie's awning and roof with the assistance of a couple of Tafel beers and a lot of swearing - I mean sweating in the 36 degrees! All set up and then discovered some casualties from our drive......never before have I had to wash eggs but first time for everything. Can't complain as while doing so there was a beautiful rainbow to one side and a spectacular sunset on the other! Only in Africa!
