Leaving behind Lusaka, our journey to Lake Tanganyika was set to be quite an adventure, and we knew we needed some well-planned stops along the way to break up the trip. Given our previous experience with the road conditions on the T4, we approached the T2, the main arterial road leading to Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a sense of trepidation.

Setting out at 6 am, the road was initially smooth, and we made our way to Kabwe. Here, we found a much-needed oasis: a cafe serving up cappuccinos to fortify us for the challenges that lay ahead.

Beyond Kabwe, the road began to reveal its treacherous side. Trucks seemed to appear from all directions, and the road was marred by potholes resembling small dams. There was little to no runoff on the road reserve, adding to the difficulty of navigation. With the challenging road conditions, we decided it was wise to have a break before reaching Serenje, and that's when we stumbled upon Tembusha Forest Camp.

Tembusha Forest Camp, situated 10 kilometres off the T2, was a hidden gem. Nestled in a beautiful forest setting, it provided a perfect respite for travellers like us. The camp's ablutions were well thought out, and we were treated to a magnificent view of the escarpment from a koppie (small hill) in front of the camp. It was an ideal place to spend the night on our journey, recharging for the next stop at Kapishya Hot Springs.

Our road trip was not just about the destination but also about the memorable stops along the way, and Tembusha Forest Camp turned out to be one of those unexpected delights that added a touch of magic to our adventure through Zambia.
